There are 2 technical requirements to use our labs. You must have a desktop or laptop computer running Windows, Mac OS, or Linux and you must install the Adobe AIR runtime. These labs are not intended for use on mobile devices.
Installing Adobe AIR
If you don’t already have AIR installed, just follow this link (airsdk.harman.com/runtime) and download the installer for your operating system. Once downloaded, double click the installer and follow the prompts.
Installing our KET Virtual Physics Labs apps
Once you have AIR, installing our labs is a breeze. After your purchase, download the necessary lab files here. Then double click on the .air lab files you download and it will install. If you have a bundle, you will need to double-click to unzip first, then install the individual .air files.
After install, run the lab from your desktop, applications folder, or whatever custom path you choose. (The original .air file is only used for installation. A shortcut to the actual app is created during installation, and you can use that from then on.)
Each individual lab has its own installer and app. If you are using several of our labs, it may be best to keep them all in one VPL folder on your desktop.
“The application cannot be installed due to a certificate problem.” Sometimes we need to update our security certificate which can cause issues with installing if you have an older version already on your system. To fix this, just delete the old version of the app and then try re-installing the newer one.
You may receive a coupon code link from your teacher or professor which grants you access to the labs.
If you have an account with us already, log-in and then paste the coupon code link into your browser’s address bar. This should automatically add the correct product to the cart, and apply the coupon code. Continue through the checkout process and place the order which should be for $0.
If you do not yet have an account, you can paste the coupon code link and then create an account during the checkout process.
Similarly, you can manually add the correct product to your cart, and then enter the coupon code at checkout.
For any questions about any of the above, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“When I double click the .air file, nothing happens.” – This could be caused by one of two things.
1) Adobe Air isn’t installed on your system. Go back to the top of this page and follow instructions on how to install Adobe Air.
2) If Adobe Air is installed, it’s possible that something else on your system is trying to open .air files by default. You can open the Adobe Air Application Installer, then open the .air files directly there. On Mac, this is found under Applications->Utilities. On Windows it varies from system to system, but should be somewhere similar to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe AIR.
